We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who participated in Capabuild’s recent mini-symposium. The event provided a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives, share insights and reflect on developments shaping the future of tax administration and governance, both in Africa and beyond.
Gitte Heij, Chair of Capabuild’s Executive Board, opened the session with an update on Capabuild’s activities, highlighting the organisation’s growing partnership with the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), as well as recent achievements and priorities for the future. This collaboration reflects the importance of building strong institutional partnerships and fostering sustainable capacity development across the African continent.
We were particularly honored to welcome Mercy Mbithi, Chair of our Supervisory Board, who shared her perspectives on emerging trends in taxation across Africa. Her contribution highlighted a continent increasingly confident in its voice and influence, taking a more prominent and united role in shaping the global tax agenda.
Dr Tu Anh Tran offered fascinating insights into Vietnam’s recentralisation process and its far-reaching implications for tax administration, governance and the investment environment, including the experiences of foreign investors. His presentation provided a valuable international perspective and reinforced the importance of learning from different institutional and policy approaches.
At Capabuild, we believe that demand driven sustainable development requires strong institutions, effective tax systems and the capacity to translate practical knowledge into lasting impact. Through collaboration, knowledge exchange and partnerships with regional and international stakeholders, including the private sector, we aim to contribute to stronger tax administrations and more resilient public institutions.
We look forward to building on these conversations and strengthening the partnerships that make this work possible.
